Following on from the recent Kurdish referendum the Iraqi government decides to take back the oil fields around Kirkuk. The area had been under control of the Kurdish Peshmerga for the last two years and the oil revenues, said to be in the billions, was variably split. However, amid fears of an autonomous Kurdish state the Iraq government decided to take back control of the oil fields and advance on Kirkuk resulting in a minor skirmish and the Kurdish Peshmerga withdrawing from the oil fields.
However, whilst doing so ISIS take the opportunity to capture three villages south of Kirkuk. Whilst they are not opperating with the Kurds, in this scenario, in order to simulate that, they are moved by the Kurdish player.
The Iraqi forces include the Popular Mobilisation Frces including the Badr Organization, Asaib Ahl al Haq and Kataib Hezbollah who the Institute for the Study of War describe as Iranian proxies.
Later the Kurdish Peshmerga move a large number of troops towards Kirkuk where they face off the Iraqi forces.
