To start off the forum with a thread I am going to refer to the Manoukh game and its Youtube video.
See Manoukh scenario.
In the video I talk about strategy and planning.
I think that this is an important issue. Again and again I watch game play-throughs and the player simply starts grabbing units and shoving them into the front line. Sure, its just a game, but as I continue to ponder things I cant help asking myself, what is a wargame? etc etc, and what is a game, etc etc. And what are you doing when you play a game.
I often use the concept of Suduko. Its a relatively mindless game but it engages the brain in a way that is satisfying in a certain way. However, its engaged at a base level. My point being that many gamers seem to play 'wargames' like they are playing Suduko, and its frustrating to say the least, as I dont want to watch people NOT THINKING. As a result, I am constantly trying to ask, WHAT AM I DOING? and i'm referring to what I am doing when playing a game, and I think the central issue comes down to planning and strategy and I am to some extent labouring that point as I think that once you can grasp that issue, you will get more value out of any gaming time that you do and learn more and enjoy it more.
In the video you will see that I think about what move I will make. I am not suggesting its the best move, it was the first I thought of after 5 seconds of thinking. However, I annotate my thoughts and carry them out. This planning and strategist thinking then allows me to consider alternatives, if I so choose, at a later time.
As a discussion thread, does this make any sense to anyone?
Do you think that games run the risk of being played in automation mode?
What is strategy and what is a wargame?
Clearly a very general set of discussion points. Please feel free to join this conversation.
